After looking up invites online, I found a style that I was drawn to, but it was simply too expensive. I’m crafty and I like DIY projects, so I went to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby and looked at paper and priced it out for myself. After making a cute pattern, I realized I could make those beautiful invites for a fraction of the cost.
A family member of mine is getting remarried…. lucky you, internet! I documented my progress…
Steps:
First step is to go find the paper you like. I use 12×12 sheets of scrap booking paper because then you can just trim off what you don’t need, and when you cut them down the middle, they are 6 inches across, the perfect size for a basic 4×6 envelope, which are easy to find in many colors. The shiny brown paper was my pattern, as left from my wedding. I liked the triangle look for folding over. But if you wanted a curve or something instead, that would be fine, probably just a lot more time consuming…

This pic is the full 12×12 sheet, to show you how I cut it. (For my wedding invites, I folded up that 1.5 inches instead of cutting it off of the bottom. I made it into a pocket to hold a card with the rehearsal dinner info. Since they didn’t need that, we just scrapped that part.)

Once you toss your scraps, measure 3 inches from the bottom on both sides, and mark with tiny pencil marks. Then use a ruler to line them up and fold against.

Repeat another 4 inches up…

Your invite should look like this… some things just make me happy… a pretty invite is one of them. Nerd alert, I know!

As for the words, you need the card to be 4×6, but since you’ll probably be printing on a not too fancy printer, you can print on 8.5×11, you just need to trim those cards to fit the 4×6 space. To find the color I wanted, I ended up going with the 12×12 again and just wasting the bottom. Whatever works best for you! I personally, really like the words on the right or left and decor next to it. You can use a stamp, a flower like this, whatever matches your wedding theme!

When complete, I think a ribbon ads a little extra pizazz…
